A Weekend of Fun: CA, Selena, and Kelly Clarkson

This weekend I returned home for a short trip to see a Kelly Clarkson concert. Now, when I say "home" I should clarify. I didn't actually go to my house, but I did return to California. I figured my parents wouldn't approve of me returning home for less than 48 hours merely to attend a concert, so I may have possibly neglected to mention that I was returning. Selena picked me up from the airport on Saturday afternoon and our adventure began.

Our adventure started with an accidental venture into San Francisco. Selena accidentally missed the turn to get on 80 toward Berkeley, so we ended up on 80 toward SF. We got into SF, turned around (after a short period of being lost), and headed back to Berkeley. We had lunch at Le Bateau Ivre ("The Drunken Boat," for those of you who don't speak French). We had been there twice before, and the food has never disappointed me. It's been delicious every time (a rarity even for good restaurants), and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a brunch, lunch, or dinner spot in Berkeley. After lunch, we headed to Ici, a cute little ice cream shop on College. The flavors here change regularly (and all of the ice cream is made by hand), so there's always something new to try. Satisfied with our delicious desserts, we headed to Target, where we purchased an FM adapter for Selena's iPod, and two CDs: Jordin Sparks' new album, Battlefield, and Pink's most recent album, Funhouse.

We then began the drive to Clearlake, CA, about two hours north of Berkeley. The drive was absolutely gorgeous - it took us through Napa, one of my favorite places to drive through. You'd think that grape vines would get boring to look at, but for some reason I think Napa is one of the most beautiful places in California. After a short drive through some hills, we made it to Clearlake. This was the first time I had been to Clearlake in years. My dad used to have a timeshare in Clearlake, but I hadn't been back since early middle school. I was expecting it to be uncomfortable, but since we weren't staying anywhere near the timeshare, it really wasn't that bad. Our hotel experience, however, is a different story.

I opted to have us stay in the Clearlake Best Western, since their hotels are usually of decent quality. The inside of the hotel looked absolutely gorgeous, but it was deceiving. The air conditioning didn't work well, making 90+ degree weather more hellish than necessary. Selena and I, being exhausted and lazy, decided to have dinner in the restaurant in the hotel. This turned out to be quite the mistake. The food was disgusting and there was a hair in my pasta (EW). Epic fail. Luckily, my box of cheeze-its and her bag of chex mix saved the day. Sleepy time followed dinner (after watching Kathy Griffin: Allegedly).

Sunday was the big day! And by the big day, I mean the day where we went out to brunch at a DELICIOUS café in Clearlake and then drove around and hung out in Walmart (yes, we are that cool) in order to stall for time until the Kelly Clarkson (who I will probably refer to as "Kelly" or KC at some point, just fyi) concert. It was worth the wait. After eating at the pre-concert Sunset BBQ (which actually had good food, thank God), we proceeded to find our seats. I believe 8th row near the center is pretty badass, don't you? Before listening to Kelly, we were forced to endure the opening band, "The Lost Boys." This was a group of 15-17 year old boys from the same county as Kelseyville (where the concert venue was). They were quite...interesting. They weren't bad, but they lacked the ability to keep a steady tempo and clearly thought they were the shit. They weren't.

Anywho, KC was AMAZING. She sang for at least 90 minutes, performing a variety of songs from all her albums (yes, even "Thankful."). The songs I can remember that she sang are:
All I Ever Wanted
Never Again
Because of You
Miss Independent
Breakaway
Cry
I Do Not Hookup
My Life Would Suck Without You
Don't Let Me Stop You
Whyyawannabringmedown
Already Gone
I Want You

I know there were more, but that's all I can remember off the top of my head at the moment. It was fantastic. I got some AWESOME pictures and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was totally worth the less-than-48-hour trip back to CA.
