Harry Potter!

Last night the other interns and I made our way to the Cobblestone Regal (in North Olmstead) to go to a midnight showing of the new Harry Potter movie (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince). It was a fun bonding experience. We got there 2 hours early and were the second group of people in the theatre (nerd-status!). We killed two hours with all sorts of random activities, in appropriate comments, and consuming the ridiculous amount of snacks that Matt bought at Walmart. Good times, good times.

Overall, I wasn't overly impressed with the movie, but I wasn't disappointed. There were some moments of very clever writing (including the "Did you and Ginny do it?" line recited by Ron when talking to Harry), but it was not a cinematic masterpiece. It was entertaining, which is the whole point of these movies, and though it deviated from the story line in the book, I still found it to be an interesting take on the whole story. My one beef is with everyone who is whining that it wasn't the same as the book. The point of the movies isn't to be the same as the book because, quite frankly, that would be boring. I'm sorry that everything was recreated perfectly, but since there have been 5 Harry Potter movies before this one and none of them have been exact recreations of the books they were based on, I assumed that you would be expecting this. Apparently I was wrong.

Overall, a good experience. It was totally worth the fact that I was exhausted all day at work today. Segue! Work has been going well. It is clear who the respected, dependable interns are (myself included) and who no one in the office really trusts to get anything done. I'm still getting along well with everyone, though personalities sometimes bug me. I try not to fault the other person, however, and usually avoid inciting a conflict. It's better for everyone that way. I love my job, and I really like working with different people in the office. Our second interview day is coming up on Friday (eek!), and it's supposed to have twice as many people as the last one, so it should be fun times.

Summer in Oberlin is progressing well. I'm going to try to make it to some of the final shows of the summer theatre festival this week/weekend. Apparently both the plays are quite good (and free!), so I feel inclined to go.

I think that's it for now. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get lots done at work. The sooner I can finish our most recent project, the sooner I can return to working on campus visit things. So the goal tomorrow is to finish 2-3 more of the info sheets (if not more). We'll see if that actually happens.

All is well here! Looking forward to the weekend (aren't I always?).
